The day arrived.
June 1, 2012, was my last day of work. I finished my day and left my government job forever. I spent the past 5 months working on paying off debt and building up my private practice. The build up nearly killed me, trying not to worry and stress over what may or may not happen once I don't have a regular income. The idea that I could make more money in private practice has intrigued me and prompted me to do the math. Turns out, all I need is 16+ clients in order to make as much per week as I was with the County. It seems unbelievable. I worked 40+ hours per week under stressful conditions and now, it looks as though I could work 20 hours and make more money doing what I love and being my own boss. Now, I am still working on how to increase business to my private practice, but it is reassuring to know that I have a number to aim for.
My next phase of my business is figuring out how to market my private practice. So far, I have got my clients either from other therapists or from word of mouth referral from other clients. I am looking into using google ad words to increase traffic to my website and I am writing a 3-fold brochure to be able to hand to people when doing direct face to face marketing. I am thinking that I need to meet with some local fertility clinics and also some of the local adoption attorneys to let them know that I am available to see their clients.
So far it has been one baby step in front of the other, but pretty soon I am hoping that it becomes quicker and easier and feels more like running along at a leisurely pace.
